"Majid Takhtarvanchi" Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations, in his speech at Tuesday's meeting of the Security Council on women, peace and security, referring to the role and position of women in social and economic developments And the political life of the countries said:
In situations of conflict, efforts should focus on addressing the root causes of violence against women, and in post-war situations, the main approach should be to protect their rights and ensure their participation in conflict resolution, peace processes, and humanitarian activities.
He said:
The Islamic Republic of Iran attaches great importance to the role of women in economic and social development as well as the political and cultural life of Iranian society.
At the meeting, Takhtarvanchi referred to the oppressive US sanctions against Iran and added:
Despite US sanctions that violate international law, the basic rights of women and girls, especially their right to development, Iran has made significant strides in empowering women and girls, including in the field of education.
The Iranian representative further referred to the situation of women in the Middle East and said:
Unfortunately, we still see the destructive effects of the occupation and foreign intervention, as well as terrorist activities that target women and girls.
He added:
The oldest case is the situation of Palestinian women, who continue to suffer the consequences of decades of occupation and human rights abuses.
Takhtarvanchi continued:
We believe that the protection of the human rights of all Afghans, including women and girls, their participation in the peace and security process, as well as their legitimate aspirations, must be guaranteed.
He emphasized that the issue of women and girls was a matter for the General Assembly and other relevant bodies of the United Nations, and that the Security Council should address this issue only if it was directly relevant to the maintenance of international peace and security.
