Tehran, YJC. Head of Iran Atomic Energy Organization Ali Akbari Salehi says the country has signed contracts with Russia on building new nuclear power plants.
Salehi who was speaking
in an interview broadcast live on the national channel on Wednesday evening
said "As we had said last year, we have laid grounds for the construction of
new power plants.”
The Majlis has also
obliged us to prepare the infrustructure that is needed to produce 20 thousand
MW nuclear electricity per year.
Our talks with Russia
lead to a trip we made last week to Moscow in which we signed 3 protocols with
them, he said.
Salehi explained "The
first protocol will be aded to the agreement made at the time of Mr. Hashemi in
1992 where the Russians had agreed to build four nucleawr power plants in
Bushehr.”
"We signed anotehr
contract which says that we would have two more power plants there. So a
contract was sgned for two power plants, one of which is going to be build in
108 months, around 9 years.”
Salehi further poionted
out that it is part of Iran’s nculear program to be able to produce 190 SWUs of
nuclear energy in 8 years from now.
