Tuesday, 18 January 2022 (YJC)_ Russia's representative in the Vienna talks said that some people do not learn from the failure of the policy of maximum pressure, adding that the Iranians have every right to ask for guarantees that the United States will not withdraw from the UN Security Council.
Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia's envoy to the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), defended Iran's condition of a guarantee that the United States would not withdraw from the JCPOA if it returned.
Reacting to the baseless allegations made by Richard Goldberg of the anti-Iranian lobby of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracy (FDD), which is also sanctioned by Iran, Ulyanov said:
Some do not want to learn from the failure of the maximum pressure policy.
He wrote on his Twitter page on Tuesday morning:
The Iranians have every right to ask for guarantees that this catastrophic adventure will not be repeated (the withdrawal of the United States from the JCPOA).
Russia's envoy to the Vienna talks has previously said that the goal of all parties is to revive the nuclear deal and lift sanctions, citing the intensification of opposition to the JCPOA following the progress of the Vienna talks.
