Khatibzadeh: Diplomatic activities of the Afghan Embassy in Tehran are within the framework of the 1961 ConventionFollowing the publication of news about the activities of the Afghan Embassy in Tehran, "Saeed Khatibzadeh", the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, today (Sunday) denied some of the issues raised regarding the future activities of the Afghan Embassy in Tehran:
The diplomatic activities of the Afghan Embassy in Tehran, like all foreign embassies, are within the framework of the principles and rules defined by the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, and no outside developments are possible.

It is worth mentioning that some media outlets published articles about the situation of the Afghan Embassy in Tehran at the same time as the visit of Amir Khan Mottaqi, the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan. The media claimed that the Iranian government was handing over the Afghan embassy in Tehran to the Taliban, and that the former Afghan ambassador to Tehran had left Iran for a European country.

The Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also announced today (Sunday) about the visit of Amir Khan Mottaqi that last night (Saturday) the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, Maulvi Amir Khan Mottaqi, arrived in Tehran at the head of an economic and political delegation.

According to the ministry, economic cooperation between the two countries is to be discussed in the delegation, which also includes the heads of the Afghan ministries of economy and industry, trade and deputies of several economic ministries.
