Saudi sources announced today (Sunday) that "Basma Al Saud", the last daughter of "Saud bin Abdul Aziz" and her daughter, was released from three-year detention last Thursday.
According to CNN Arabic, the Saudi prince was released while during his detention, no charges were brought against her and she did not appear in any court. Saudi opposition says the reason for her arrest was her criticism of human rights abuses in the country.
She was arrested three years ago while traveling to Switzerland for treatment, along with her daughter, Suhud al-Sharif. In April 2020, while in custody, Basma al-Saudis asked the Saudi king to order her release for various reasons. Her illness is still unknown.
Al-Qast, a human rights organization that deals with human rights abuses in Saudi Arabia, tweeted that Basma al-Saud and her daughter, who were imprisoned during the March 2019 arrests, had been released.
