Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry stressed in a statement its support for human rights in the countryKazakhstan's Foreign Ministry has issued a statement on the recent protests in the country.

The statement said:
On January 5, 2022, a state of emergency was declared across the country by order of Kazakh President Qassim Jamert Takayev.

Initially, protests erupted in the Mangistao area, with residents demanding a reduction in the retail price of liquefied natural gas. In response, by order of the President, the government immediately took steps to reduce them and increase the prices of socially important food, fuel and municipal services. All those detained in the early days of the protests were released.

However, protests in other major cities turned into riots and attacks on government institutions.

In addition, there was an attack on administrative and military facilities in Almaty and the seizure of a store and the maintenance of foreign passenger and cargo aircraft, which testifies to the high readiness and coordination of the attackers' actions. The analysis shows that Kazakhstan is facing an armed attack by terrorist groups trained abroad.
