Biden introduced the option of commanding US forces in West AsiaPresident Joe Biden has nominated a high-ranking U.S. Army general to head the United States Central Command, known as Centcom.

The Wall Street Journal reported in a special report, citing US officials and congressional documents, that the US President has nominated three-star General Michael Erik Kurilla as his candidate for the post. The head of Centcom has commanded US forces in West Asia, East Africa and Central Asia.

If the US Senate approves Corriella's candidacy, he will replace Frank McKenzie, who has been in command of Centcom since March 2019 and whose term is set to end on April 1.

Corilla has previously served as Chief of Staff at Centcom and currently commands the 18th Airborne Corps. According to the Wall Street Journal, he is running for the presidency of Centcom, while the United States is worried about the possibility of Afghanistan regaining power and the Afghan branch of ISIS in the region.

The Militarytimes confirmed the news and wrote that the Biden government on Wednesday formally nominated Eric Corriella for the presidency of Centcom.
