Pentagon spokesman John Kirby claimed Tuesday evening that the recent drone strikes on Iraq's Ain al-Assad base were very similar to those previously seen by Iranian-backed militants in Iraq.
A Pentagon spokesman added:
We have a new mission in Iraq, which includes training and counseling, and this mission emphasizes our right to self-defense.
He referred to Tuesday's attacks by the so-called anti-ISIS coalition on the village of al-Khadra in Syria and said:
We believed that the launch pads installed in this area in Syria would be used against us.
An official of the International Coalition Against ISIS announced on Tuesday evening that it had carried out attacks against the "immediate threat" in Syria.
According to Reuters, the official added:
The US-led coalition carried out attacks on threatened rocket sites in Syria on Tuesday.
The official, who did not want to be named, said the coalition witnessed several launch sites near the Syrian village of al-Khadra.
The official did not specify where the so-called anti-ISIS coalition carried out the missile attack.
