China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that an economic meeting had been held between Chinese officials and the Taliban and the two sides exchanged views on providing humanitarian aid and rebuilding Afghanistan's economy.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said Chinese officials and Zakir Jalali, a representative of the Taliban interim foreign ministry, had discussed humanitarian aid and Afghanistan's economic reconstruction.
According to him, the meeting was held to implement an agreement signed between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Taliban's first deputy prime minister, in Doha last year.
He added that the two sides discussed the current humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, economic reconstruction and progress in China's humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, as well as bilateral cooperation.
According to GVS, the two sides have agreed to share their experiences in strengthening local governance.
The Chinese side in the talks expressed readiness to provide more humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan as well as the country's economic reconstruction.
The Taliban interim government has confirmed that the head of the State Department's political bureau has met with the head of the Chinese department at the Chinese Foreign Ministry on various issues, including Afghanistan's economic reconstruction and trade issues.
