At the beginning of the new year, Palestinian institutions reported that the Zionist army had captured nearly 8,000 Palestinians, including 1,300 children and 184 women, in the year 2021.
According to the Al-Jazeera news website, the Institute of Prisoners of War and Human Rights announced in their joint annual report that the number of Palestinian prisoners and detainees in Israeli prisons now reaches 4,600, including 34 women, by the end of December 2021. About 500 Palestinians are also being held in temporary detention and administration, and nine members of the Palestinian parliament are still being held captive.
Administrative detention is, in fact, a six-month military detention under the pretext of a security threat, and defendants are detained without trial or charge.
Palestinian legal institutions state that about 600 Palestinian prisoners are ill, four of whom have cancer.
According to the report, the number of prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment will reach 574, four of whom were sentenced in 2021.
