Sunday, 26 December 2021 (YJC)_ The Prime Minister of Canada called on Beijing to play a leading role in the economic sphere, urging Western countries to form a united front against China.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Western countries should have a united front against China to prevent Beijing from exploiting trade interests to play games against each other.
In an interview with Global TV, Trudeau said that Western countries have been played by China as it competes for economic opportunities.
According to Reuters, quoting the interview, he claimed:
We have been competing and China is playing smart with us from time to time in a free and competitive market.
The Prime Minister of Canada also added:
We need to do better to work together and stand firm so that China can not play its own way and put us against each other.
Sino-Canadian relations have been strained for the past three years following the arrest of Huawei chief financial officer Meng Wangzhou at Vancouver airport.
Canada's arrest of Meng Wenzhou and the possibility of his extradition to the United States were met with a swift response from Chinese government officials, and Beijing began pressuring Ottawa and Washington to release the Chinese national from day one.
