Iraqi media reported on Sunday morning that an explosion had been heard in the Iraqi capital.
The blast was reported in the "Green Zone" of Baghdad, the Saber News Telegram Channel reported.
According to the Iraqi media, alarm sirens were sounded inside the green zone and the air defense system of the US Embassy in Baghdad was activated.
Sabrinews reported minutes later:
Two rockets landed near the third base of Tawhid [inside the US Embassy in the Green Zone].
The Iraqi media then wrote that the level of alert and preparedness at the US embassy had reached the highest level and all entrances to the Green Zone had been blocked.
Minutes later, Sputnik quoted an Iraqi security source in Baghdad as saying:
The US embassy in the Green Zone in central Baghdad was targeted with rockets. At least two rockets hit near the US embassy and no casualties have been reported so far.
Sabrinews then stated that initial reports stated that the area of Palestine Street in Baghdad was the place where the rockets were fired, adding:
One of the rockets landed inside the courtyard of the US embassy, and the second rocket was fired by the air defense system and fell outside the embassy.
The media then quoted the Iraqi Security Information Agency as confirming its news:
The green area of Baghdad was targeted with two Katyusha rockets.
