Friday, 17 December 2021 (YJC)_ A Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman said that the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency had reported to the Board of Governors on the agreement reached between Iran and Iran, adding that "we support the mutual commitment of the IAEA and Iran to continue cooperation."
In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry welcomed and supported the agreement between Iran and the IAEA.
The statement quoted Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova as saying on the ministry's website on December 16 (yesterday):
On December 15, Rafael Grossi, Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, reported to the IAEA Board of Governors on the agreements reached with Iran on a number of key issues related to the IAEA's verification activities in Iran.
He added:
In particular, issues include continuing interaction in the field of safeguards, including the exchange of information and contacts between experts, providing examples of CCTV cameras used by the International Atomic Energy Agency for the necessary analysis to the Iranian authorities and, most importantly, re-installing such cameras in the centrifuge rotor factory. It is Karaj. All of the above will be done within the agreed time frame.
The Russian diplomat further commented on Russia's position:
We welcome these agreements. We support the mutual commitment of the International Atomic Energy Agency and Iran to continue cooperating within the framework of the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement and in accordance with the requirements of the Comprehensive Joint Action Plan (JCPOA) and in the light of UN Security Council Resolution 2231.
He further added that the agreement coincided with the lifting of sanctions in Vienna.
This good news is now more important than ever in terms of stimulating the ongoing talks in Vienna, which resumed on November 29. We hope that with the joint efforts of all parties and with the support of the International Atomic Energy Agency, the existing problems in the implementation of the 2015 nuclear agreement will be resolved and tensions over Iran's nuclear program will be reduced, which is fully in line with regional and global security interests.
