Thursday, 16 December 2021 (YJC)_ The Iranian foreign ministry’s spokesperson called on Persian Gulf Cooperation Council to replace repeated allegations with cooperation.

Khatibzadeh Urged PGCC to Replace Repeated Allegations with CooperationThe Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh criticized the final statement of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council meeting in Riyadh and called on Persian Gulf Cooperation Council to replace repeated allegations with cooperation.

“Recent diplomatic movements between Iran and the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) supposed to bring a new approach taken by the Council towards regional cooperation,” he said.

He went on to urge PGCC members to revise their approaches towards regional issues and substitute repeated allegations with cooperation and noted “Iran tolerate no interference in its peaceful nuclear and defense program, Three Iranian islands of Abu Musa and Greater and Lesser Tunbs are the permanent part of the country’s territory.”

He finally put emphasis on the fact that expanding ties with neighboring countries is the priority for the current administration and noted “cooperation with neighbors is the solution to the regional problems.”

International documents clearly show that the three islands of the Greater Tunb, the Lesser Tunb and Abu Musa which were historically owned by Iran, temporarily fell to British control in 1903. The islands were returned to Iran based on an agreement in 1971 before the UAE was born.

Prior to this, Iran has declared many times that its ownership of the three islands is unquestionable.
