Taliban officials said that following the unprecedented devaluation of the Afghan national currency against foreign currencies, all transactions should now be conducted in Afghan currency.
The issue was raised yesterday (Wednesday) at a joint meeting of the prime minister, the defense, interior and economy ministries, the central bank, the municipality and the group's security command for Kabul, Taliban Deputy Interior Ministry spokesman Aqiljan Azzam said.
According to him, the participants in the meeting also decided to pay the rent of shops and houses in Afghani money and the smuggling of money should be seriously prevented.
The Taliban also said those who disobeyed the decision would be punished.
In recent days, the value of the Afghan currency against foreign currencies, including the dollar, has fallen sharply to 130 afghanis per dollar. This is the lowest price of the Afghan currency in the last 20 years.
