Sunday, 12 December 2021 (YJC)_Iranian top negotiator announced that the deal that was signed between Iran and the world powers in 2015 is the basis of the current Vienna talks.
In an interview Iran’s top negotiator Ali Baghri Kani said that the deal that was signed between Iran and the world powers in 2015 is the basis of the current Vienna talks.
“That agreement is the only thing we will agree on and that is Iran’s red line,” he said while noting that “In 2015, we have agreed on agreement that was finalized by Iran and the G5+1, the US withdrew from it a few years later and now it wants to rejoin that deal. So, this agreement is a shared basis between the two sides.”
He went on to say that “Regarding the draft text that was the outcome of the six rounds of talks held between April and June, we still have some issues unresolved, these problems require high-level decision making.”
Prior to this, on Friday Reuters claimed from a European source that Iran was ready to work on the basis of earlier nuclear talks and was willing to continue the Vienna talks on the basis of texts prepared in June.
After that, a source close to Iran’s negotiating team, rejected this claim, while noting that “In its talk with China, Iran announced that the text of the previous six rounds of the Vienna talks was respectable but because it was not agreed upon, it would be negotiable.”
Also in a relevant message, referring to his meeting with Austrian Foreign Minister Michael Linhart, Iranian top negotiator, Ali Bagheri Kani said false reports from outside the session cannot make Iran weak and the nuclear deal is alive because of Iran's responsible conduct.
He also added “Deal is alive because of Iran's responsible conduct. Dishonest reports from outside negotiating room won't weaken our will to reach a deal securing our nation's rights & interests.”
Currently, the Iranian official is in Vienna to attend negotiations on lifting sanctions against Iran.
On Thursday afternoon it is announced that the 8th round of Vienna talks between Iran and P4+1 has started in Coburg Hotel.
“The removal of the sanctions imposed by the US on Iran after its unilateral withdrawal from the nuclear deal” is the main aim of the current talks.
