Thursday, 9 December 2021 (YJC)_ The UN Security Council condemned the terrorist attack in the Iraqi province of Basra and called for the perpetrators to be punished.
The UN Security Council condemned in a statement the terrorist attack in Basra that killed and injured a number of civilians.
Members of the Security Council expressed their condolences to the families of the victims of the terrorist attack and stressed the need to punish the perpetrators, organizers and supporters of the terrorist attacks.
According to the Iraqi News Agency (WAA), the statement called on all countries to cooperate with the Iraqi government in this regard in accordance with international law and Security Council resolutions.
The members of the Security Council also stressed that any terrorist act is a criminal and unjustifiable act:
It is essential that all countries use all means at their disposal to address threats to world peace and security in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and other international laws.
The Security Council also reiterated its support for Iraq's security and for the continuation of the war against the Islamic State terrorist group.
The latest blast in Basra took place near Al-Jumhuri Hospital, killing seven people and injuring several others.
