US President Joe Biden announced on Wednesday evening that he would hold a meeting with Russia and members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and would not launch a unilateral military strike on the country.
According to Sputnik, Biden announced a day after a video call with Russian President Vladimir Putin:
The meeting will be attended by Russia and NATO members to address Moscow's concerns.
The US President added:
His country will not use military force against Russia unilaterally, and will not use US troops as pressure to find a solution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Asked by a reporter about sending troops to Ukraine, he said:
This option is not on the table. We have a moral and legal commitment to our NATO allies in the event of an attack, and this is a sacred commitment, but it does not extend to Ukraine.
The US President said:
Such a move depends on what other NATO members want to do.
