Thursday, 9 December 2021 (YJC)_ The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations said that the Israeli regime should accede to the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons immediately and without preconditions.
"Majid Takht-e Ravanchi," the ambassador and permanent representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations in New York on Wednesday, addressed a meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in Syria:
Efforts to end the Syrian people must be redoubled to prevent further suffering and the negative effects of the conflict on regional peace and security.
He reminded:
Of course, such actions must be based on full respect for the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Syria, the withdrawal of all uninvited and occupying forces from all parts of the country, as well as the effective fight against terrorist groups in it.
Takht-Ravanchi also clarified:
Many terrorists based in Syria must be tried for using chemical agents during the Syrian conflict.
The representative of Iran stated:
We reaffirm our full support for the achievement of the objectives of the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons through its full, effective and non-discriminatory implementation, and we strongly urge the universality of this Convention. In this regard, Iran believes that the Israeli regime should be forced to accede to this convention without any further preconditions or delays.
The senior Iranian diplomat said:
The Islamic Republic of Iran also emphasizes the importance of strengthening the authority of the Convention and the independent, impartial and professional activity of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and calls for an end to the instrumental use of this organization by some countries.
He added:
The Islamic Republic of Iran appreciates the significant efforts of the Syrian government in fulfilling its obligations under the Convention, including the complete destruction of all 27 of its chemical weapons facilities, and hopes that the forthcoming meeting between the Director General of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and the Syrian Foreign Minister will resolve the remaining issues.
