Tehran, YJC. Iran’s Minister of Information and Communication Technology Mahmoud Vaezi has said that the government is planning a 3-stage procedure for censoring the internet for domestic users.
Vaezi who was speaking in the sidelines of the 20th
Press and News Agencies Exhibition on Friday said that the censorship program
is one of the tasks on the ministry’s agenda which is being closely followed.
In the past 8 months, numerous contracts have been dealt
with science and research institutions to carry out the project, he maintained.
He added "The government is intent to arrange the internet
in a way that people would be able to use the internet and messaging social
apps in a desirable way.”
"Families too believe
that morally apprehensive websites which damage the family have to be kept away
from the public. So, through smart censorship, we mean only to block the
destructive websites.”
Vaezi explained that in the first stage of the three-stage
project which is going to start in a month, parts of some websites are going to
be monitored.
The second stage will be implemented in 3 months, and the 3rd
stage in about 6 months, he sai.
