Democrat and Muslim MP Ilhan Omar stressed on Sunday that he was confident that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi would take action against Republican Lauren Bubert over her anti-Muslim rhetoric in the coming days.
In a speech in Colorado last month, Bubert described Ilham Omar, who was born in Somalia, as a member of a "jihadist squad."
The pro-gun legislator in the United States also recently said that when he was in the elevator of the Congress building with Ilhan Omar, he saw a congressional police officer running towards the elevator. He continued:
I said to myself, well, he (Ilhan Omar) does not have a backpack with him, so nothing will happen to us.
Bubert later apologized to Omar and the Muslims for his remarks, but the phone call between the two representatives ended in resentment, and Ilhan Omar said he had no regrets about Bubert's remarks.
According to Reuters, Democrats in the US Congress have called for the removal of Bubert's commission from his remarks against Muslims.
