Tehran, YJC. Caretaker of the Iranian Mission to the UN Gholam Hossein Dehqani, whose country is the current president of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), urged the Security Council to act Impartially and drop its selective approach in relation to his country.

Dehqani made the remarks whicle addressing a UN General Assembly meeting on behalf of 120 NAM member countries, sources reported on Thursday.

According to Fars news, the Iranian diplomat reiterated that the UNSC's selective approach has turned this international body into an instrument for achieving certain political goals.

Dehqani called on the UNSC to pay due attention to key indicators such as transparency, solid views and acceptance of various opinions.

He underscored the point that NAM strongly rejects making use of the UNSC as an instrument for pursuing specific political objectives and interests.

The Iranian diplomat also stressed that the UN body should enjoy impartial, non-selective and accountable performance.

Also in October, he had asked the UN Security Council to act impartially and without discrimination.

"The NAM believes that in its measures, approaches and methods, the UNSC should pay attention to key issues, including transparency, open atmosphere and stability of decisions," Dehqani said, addressing a UNSC meeting in New York.

Noting that in many cases the UNSC doesn’t pay due attention to the important developments in the world, he said this was while the world body sometimes holds some sessions on topics which were not on its agenda and with selected participants.

"The NAM strongly rejects using the UNSC as a tool for pursuing special political goals and interests and believes that the Council's performance should be impartial, unselective and accompanied by accountability," Dehqani stated.
