Wednesday, 1 December 2021 (YJC)_ Iranian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations said that the US inhuman economic sanctions prevent the needed multilateralism needed to fight against pandemic.

Iranian Ambassador: US Sanctions Prevented Needed Multilateralism to Fight COVID-19In his remarks addressing the 45th Annual Meeting of Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the Group of 77 and China, in New York on Tuesday, Iranian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Majid Takht Ravanchi said that the US inhuman economic sanctions prevent the needed multilateralism needed to fight against pandemic.

“Imposed economic sanctions has prevented multilateralism that is needed to fight the coronavirus,” he said while criticizing the lack of decisive international action to counter those illegal measures and said this leads to sustainable development being “meaningless”,” Iranian ambassador said.

He went on to say that the world is now cooperating to tackle the problem of pandemic but “the US continues to impose unilateral coercive measures, including illegal economic sanctions. These illegal acts and the lack of decisive action to counter them have turned the ideal of ‘no one should be left behind’, into a purely decorative and meaningless claim.”
