Tuesday, 30 November 2021 (YJC)_ The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations emphasized the accession of the Zionist regime to the NPT and said: Due to US support and disregard for Israel's nuclear program, the realization of a Middle East free of weapons of mass destruction has become impossible.
The second session of the Middle East Conference on Weapons of Mass Destruction began with a speech by Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations and President of the Conference, on Monday, December 8, at the UN Secretariat in New York.
"Majid Takht Ravanchi", Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations, explained the views and opinions of the Islamic Republic of Iran on the main topic of the conference.
"Weapons of mass destruction are a threat to human life," he said.
Given the history of the use of these weapons in the region, including the use of chemical weapons by forces under Saddam's rule in the war against Iran in the 1980s, this danger is especially familiar to Middle Eastern countries.
The Iranian representative added:
Establishment of a zone free of weapons of mass destruction The decision of the Conference to Review the Treaty. It was in 1995 that the PTA called on all countries to work together to ensure that this decision was implemented, and one of the ways in which this is reflected is in the decision of the UN General Assembly.
He emphasized:
Of course, the current process initiated under the auspices of the United Nations will in no way replace the process required by the NPT, because these two processes are complementary and not alternative.
In another part of his remarks, Takht-e Ravanchi mentioned:
The successful holding of the conference, of course, is not to the liking of some, and while all the guests from the region and the four nuclear powers are attending the conference, the United States and Israel continue to oppose it and do not attend the conference.
He added:
In such circumstances, the first way to remove these obstacles is for Israel to join the NPT as a non-nuclear member and to accept IAEA inspections of all of its nuclear activities.
According to the Iranian representative, it is due to US support and disregard for Israel's nuclear program that the realization of a region free of weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East has become impossible.
