Friday, 26 November 2021 (YJC)_ Stressing the continuation of the policy of maximum pressure from the new US administration, the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister said that the lifting of sanctions would be a condition for the success of the forthcoming nuclear talks.
Ali Bagheri Kani, the political deputy foreign minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, stressed on Thursday that the nuclear talks in Vienna would be fruitful if all US sanctions were lifted.
In an interview with The Independent newspaper, Bagheri said:
The lifting of all sanctions related to the JCPOA, including the sanctions imposed under the "maximum pressure" campaign, is a prerequisite for the success of the negotiations.
This senior diplomat of our country added:
The request for assurances, on the other hand, not to withdraw from the agreement, not to impose new sanctions, and not to reinstate or re-impose previous sanctions is intended to neutralize the possibility that any political turmoil in the United States will affect its international behavior.
Bagheri also emphasized:
Unfortunately, the failed policy of pursuing the maximum pressure campaign that began under the Trump administration remains on the Biden administration's agenda.
He continued:
President Biden must lift sanctions in order to rid himself of what we see as political confusion and pursuing the failed and inhumane policies of the Trump administration.
Referring to the developments in the region, Bagheri noted:
The US escape from Afghanistan has once again shown that it is not a reliable partner for anyone. We are in close and constant interaction with the countries of the region.
Referring to the need for the release of Iran's blocked Iranian currency, he said:
Europeans must make up for their failure to meet their obligations through practical steps to lift sanctions.
Bagheri clarified:
We base our stance on other countries on our own interests, and we do not care about their relationship with the United States. A country that has a seat at the negotiating table must be able to pursue independent policies, otherwise what is the need to be present at this table?
Western countries, led by the United States and the Zionist regime, have in recent years accused Iran of pursuing military goals in its nuclear program. Iran has strongly denied these allegations.
