Turki al-Faisal, the former head of Saudi Arabia's intelligence agency and former ambassador to the United States, made remarks Thursday evening about Riyadh's efforts to obtain a nuclear bomb.
"Iran is looking for a nuclear bomb," he said in an interview with the US-based Amas Nubisi network.
I have said publicly before that we must do whatever is necessary, including developing a nuclear bomb to defend ourselves against the possibility of a nuclear Iran.
However, the former Saudi official added:
I am not working in the government to say what the government will do about this case; But this is my personal opinion.
The former Saudi official's remarks come as the Saudi government announced in November 2017 that it had plans to build two large reactors, with Russia, China, the United States, France and South Korea sending their plans to Riyadh.
Earlier, it was also reported that China and South Korea were building several small reactors in Saudi Arabia.
