Monday, 15 November 2021 (YJC)_ The Iranian foreign ministry said that London’s overdued debt to Tehran should be paid as soon as possible.
Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh told reporters in a press conference in Tehran that London’s overdued debt to Tehran should be paid as soon as possible.
“London’s overdued debt to Tehran has always been reminded to the British officials and it is one of the permanent topics of negotiations between Iran and the UK,” he said while adding “This issue has been postponed under any pretexts for several times.”
Last week, in this phone call with UK Foreign Secretary, Liz Truss, Iran Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian stressed the need for London to pay back the debts to Iran as soon as possible.
The debt is related to the purchase contract of tanks in 1971 signed by the British Ministry of Defense and the Pahlavi regime according to which the Britain was supposed to deliver 1,500 tanks and armored vehicles to Iran.
