In a phone conversation with his Algerian counterpart Ramtane Lamamra, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian appreciated the country’s opposition to the Zionist regime’s membership in the African Union (AU).
“Algeria reaction was based on wisdom and logic, this measure in addition to Algeria's rational stance on Syria's return to the Arab League are valuable,” he addressed his Algerian counterpart.
He went on to express his hope that the future meeting of the Arab League could bring forth significant benefits for the Muslim Ummah.
On July 22, Israel announced that it had joined the influential pan-African body. Since the disbandment of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in 2002, Israel had made futile attempts to join the African Union, which replaced the OAU.
