Friday, 12 November 2021 (YJC)_ The head of the Iran section of the Atlantic Council of the United States emphasized: There is no other way for Biden to use diplomacy on Iran.

Prediction of the head of the Iranian section of the Atlantic Council on the Vienna talksBarbara Slavin is a well-known American journalist, senior analyst, and head of the Atlantic Council's Iran section. He also works for the Washington Post. In an interview with ILNA, he expressed her views on the resumption of the Vienna talks.

Barbara Slavin initially said about the resumption of the Vienna talks on the announced date:
Given Iran's harsh rhetoric, my expectations of these meetings are very low. While Iran has the right to complain about the actions of the previous US administration, it will not reduce sanctions without being willing to compromise on its maximum goals. The first session of the Vienna talks is unlikely to have much of a tangible result. We hope that in the future, Iran will agree to more negotiations that are more realistic and require direct talks with the US delegation.

Regarding the possibility of reviving the JCPOA after the talks, she said:
It is not clear what the chances are of 50-50 in the best case scenario.

Barbara Slavin spoke about the obstacles to reviving JCPOA:
Iranian negotiators are demanding concessions that no US government can offer. JCPOA was a political agreement that included the White House waiving some sanctions against Iran, provided that Iran restricted its nuclear activities and allowed intrusive surveillance. The Biden administration can not promise that the next administration will not withdraw from the agreement, only, as Rob Malley said, that it will not leave the agreement again for false reasons. Also, some sanctions against Iran due to non-nuclear activities such as allegations of human rights violations and support for terrorism will not be and will remain in force.
