Experience physical and psychological violence among thousands of American forcesAccording to a new study, more than 35,000 U.S. Air Force personnel have experienced certain forms of physical or psychological violence in the past two years.

Among the 68,000 members of the U.S. Air Force, Air Force and Air Force guards, and civilian Air Force personnel surveyed last fall (2020) by the U.S. Air Force Individual Violence Individual Working Group, Hill News reported. The United States responded that 54 percent, or 36,720 people, reported experiencing some form of "psychological or physical harm that is far from a culture of dignity and respect."

According to the report, the US Air Force, which released the results of the study on Tuesday this week, expressed hope that it would gain a better understanding of the extent of violence experienced by its personnel at home and at work.

The US Air Force Internal Working Group identified 81 behaviors as "continuing harm" ranging from humiliation to sexual harassment and physical harm.

According to the report, of those surveyed, only 17% of those who had been sexually abused were willing to report them to the authorities, and most of those seeking help were dissatisfied with their experiences and were treated appropriately.

US Air Force Commander Frank Kendall told reporters:
People at lower levels seem to have experienced such things, and when we are told that there is a problem, high-ranking officials do not realize that there is a problem and that this is true.

The results show that these behaviors include bullying in the workplace, which 36% of respondents reported, and harassment in the workplace, which 29% of respondents reported experiencing such a problem.

On the other hand, 9% reported sexual harassment and 21% said they had experienced violent behavior from others.

This is not the first time that violent behavior has been reported in the US military. A few months ago, the Independent Commission of Inquiry into the US Army found that 135,000 rapes and 509 cases of sexual harassment had been reported in the US military over the past 11 years, with the command level failing to address the issue.
