Thursday, 11 November 2021 (YJC)_ Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri commented on his talks with his US counterpart on Iran.

Egypt asks US to negotiate with IranThe Egyptian foreign minister, who has been in Washington for the past few days to hold talks with US officials, told reporters that he had stressed in talks with US officials that any talks with Iran would take into account regional interests.

According to Sameh Shukri, there are currently no direct talks between Egypt and Iran.

It was announced on Monday that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken had met with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shukri in Washington.

The State Department issued a statement announcing the news, saying in a statement:
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri opened the US-Egypt Strategic Dialogue, the first bilateral dialogue since 2015, and the two sides welcomed the opportunity to deepen strong partnership between the two countries.

At the bilateral meeting, the US Secretary of State also praised Egypt's role in supporting regional stability, including continuing to work for de-escalation in the Gaza Strip and efforts to support the UN support mission in Libya.
