The Islamic Republic of Iran became a permanent member of the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR), despite opposition from the Zionist regime and US stone-throwing.
The Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations in New York announced in this regard:
Following several rounds of intensive negotiations on a draft resolution submitted by Australia, which was finally unanimously approved by the UN General Assembly Special Political Committee today, the Islamic Republic of Iran was able to promote its position as an "observer" in this prominent scientific body to "full membership".
The Islamic Republic of Iran began its bid to join the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation in 2011 and, despite some serious opposition, won an "observer membership" in 2017. Since then, our country's scientists have actively participated in the activities of this UN scientific institution.
After a four-year period of our country's observer membership in this committee, the Islamic Republic of Iran planned and tried to gain its "full membership" this year. As a result of intensive diplomatic consultations, and despite opposition from the Israeli regime and US stone-throwing, the Special Political Committee of the United Nations General Assembly today approved its request.
