The British government is seeking a long-term gas contract with Qatar, as a shortage of natural gas in Europe has pushed up wholesale prices on the continent.
According to sources familiar with the talks, the British ministers and their allies in Qatar, the largest producer of liquefied natural gas, have been discussing the preparations for a long-term contract and Qar has become the final solution for supplying gas to Britain.
The British Ministry of Trade, Energy and Industrial Strategy and the Government of Qatar declined to comment.
