Tuesday, 2 November 2021 (YJC)_ Russia and China have issued a resolution calling on the Security Council to lift sanctions on North Korea.
Reuters reported:
China and Russia are trying to pressure the Security Council to ease sanctions on North Korea by resuming efforts in 2019 to lift a ban on exports of Pyongyang sculptures, seafood and textiles and extend it to the ceiling on refined oil imports.
In a draft resolution reached by Reuters on Monday, China and Russia called on the 15-member Security Council to lift the sanctions "in order to improve the living conditions of civilians in the country."
North Korea has been under UN sanctions since 2006 for pursuing its nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
According to the report, the draft Russian-Chinese resolution also includes other measures that China and Russia first proposed two years ago, including lifting the ban on North Korean nationals working abroad and exempting them from boycotting rail cooperation projects. And the roads become two spheres.
Several UN diplomats, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the rewritten China-Russia resolution was unlikely to win the support of Security Council members.
