US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan stressed yesterday (Sunday) that Washington's immediate priority is to limit Iran's nuclear program.
Asked whether Washington would try to isolate Iran's nuclear program when it returns to the Vienna talks to revive the JCPOA, or whether the talks would also include Iran's missile program and regional activities, Sullivan said. Took, said:
Our approach is to try to return to the JCPOA on the basis of commitment to commitment, which means focusing on a set of issues and then using it as a basis for addressing the wide range of concerns we have about Iran's approach. We use that this includes Iran's missile programs and regional activities.
The US National Security Adviser then commented on Washington's efforts to curb Iran's nuclear program:
But our immediate priority is to revive (Iran) nuclear restrictions, because by imposing such restrictions we will be in a better position to confront and contain the rest of the issues.
Sullivan then emphasized the following:
Yes, what I am saying is that we see this issue (limiting Iran's nuclear activities) in the first place. The first order of our work is to return to the JCPOA on the basis of mutual commitment. But JCPOA's design principle has always given us the impression that we will continue to work hard to address our deep concerns about other Iranian activities and other elements of the threat that Iran poses. And this is what we plan to do in the future.
