Speaking about the coronavirus, a senior Russian official stressed the need for countries around the world to be prepared to prevent future epidemics.
In an interview with a Russian newspaper, Dmitry Medvedev, a former Russian president and prime minister, expressed hope that the global coronavirus epidemic would be brought under control.
According to the Tass news agency, Medvedev said in an interview with "Rossiyskaya Gazeta":
There are strong indications that the situation (due to the coronavirus epidemic) will generally be under control in the next few months, but what is also evident is the need for continued preparedness to repel such threats in the future.
He is the vice-president of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, stressing that the international community must focus on all systems responsible for the life, health and well-being of its citizens.
The former Russian president continued:
It is very important to introduce new technologies, eliminate inequalities in society, support the most vulnerable groups of people and provide an emergency fund. Access to quality health services, including emergency and scheduled (non-emergency), medicines, vaccines and equipment, must be protected. Protection that allows people not only to survive in such challenging situations, but also to live their full lives every day.
The former Russian prime minister warned in the interview that the global coronavirus epidemic could continue for a very long time.
Dmitry Medvedev told the Rossiyskaya Gazeta newspaper:
Even after mass vaccination and collective immunity (herd), there is still the possibility of a new local outbreak (coronavirus).
The former Russian president and prime minister went on to stress that the events of the past two years caused by the Corona epidemic in the world have left an indelible mark on the history of civilization.
