About a week after the US president promised to protect Taiwan from any Chinese aggression, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken reiterated his empty promises.
Blinken said in an interview with CNN on Sunday evening (local time):
There has been no change in our policy. However, we had a long-standing commitment that Biden strongly supported when he was in the Senate, a long-standing commitment under Taiwan Relations Law to ensure that Taiwan has a means of self-defense.
He went on to say whether the United States would act directly to defend Taiwan:
We are next to Taiwan. The President is adamant on this issue, and we want to make sure that no one takes unilateral action that would disrupt the situation in Taiwan.
