Monday, 1 November 2021 (YJC)_ The Russian Foreign Minister announced that he had a short but useful conversation with the President of the United States on the sidelines of the G20 summit.
Sergei Lavrov and Joe Biden met on the sidelines of the G20 summit, despite escalating tensions between Washington and Moscow and US preparations to expel 55 members of the Russian embassy and consulate.
According to Russian media reports, the senior Moscow diplomat explained his recent meeting with US President Joe Biden in an interview with Russia-1 TV channel.
According to the Tass news agency, the Russian foreign minister announced that he had a short but useful meeting with the US President on the sidelines of the G20 summit.
The two-day G20 summit began on Saturday in Rome, Italy, and was attended by the leaders of the G20, with the exception of Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping.
In an interview with Russia-1, the Russian Foreign Minister said about his talks with the US President on Saturday:
I had a brief but helpful conversation with President Biden, who extended his best regards to Vladimir Putin and reaffirmed his commitment to further contacts (between the United States and Russia).
Sergei Lavrov added:
(We) also talked briefly about how to make these calls in the foreseeable future. I have reported (about my meeting with Biden) to the President (Russia) and I think it will be useful to draft our next plans.
