Monday, 1 November 2021 (YJC)_ Ali Chegni, the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, said that the Minister of Foreign Affairs intends to travel to New Delhi later this month (November) to attend the Joint Economic Commission of India and Iran.
Ali Chegni, the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, said in an interview with the Indian newspaper "Print" that the relations between Iran and India during the presidency of Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi are on the verge of reaching the next level.
He added:
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian plans to travel to New Delhi in late November to attend the India-Iran Joint Economic Commission, which heralds a new era for the two countries.
Saeed Khatibzadeh, spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, told a weekly news conference on September 13, in response to a question about the foreign minister's visit to India:
A trip to India was on the agenda, but was canceled due to several related issues, including the visit of the President of our country to Tajikistan to attend the Shanghai Summit and preparations for the trip, as well as several important and urgent meetings related to foreign policy issues. And in consultation with friends in New Delhi, this trip will have a new schedule that I will announce.
Chegni also said:
We have no restrictions, no bans, no obstacles to develop our relations with India ... India was our big customer of oil and we were the first country to export oil to India in rupees. It was the recognition of the rupee as an international currency, instead of using another dollar or currency. We also did this to buy goods from India.
