Thursday, 28 October 2021 (YJC)_ Iranian Oil Ministry officials say natural gas output in the country will maximize to 940 million cubic meters (mcm) per day over the winter months to ensure households and power plants will face no shortages.

Iran to maximize winter gas output to 940 mcm per dayCEO of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Mohsen Khojasteh Mehr said on Wednesday that daily gas production from Iran’s massive offshore gas fields in the Persian Gulf would amount to 700 mcm in the upcoming winter.

“Over this year’s winter we will have the maximum output of gas,” said Khojasteh Mehr, a deputy oil minister, while briefing President Ebrahim Raeisi as he was visiting the Iranian Oil Ministry headquarters in downtown Tehran.

Other officials said that the government had adopted extensive measures to prevent any shortage of natural gas that could reduce electricity generation at power plants and lead to forced power cuts in large cities over the winter.

CEO of Iranian Gas Transmission Company Mehdi Jamshidi Dana said that pipelines carrying natural gas from southern offshore fields will expand by 200 kilometers in the upcoming weeks.

Jamshidi Dana said that extensive repair and maintenance work had been carried out on the existing pipelines and pumping facilities to ensure the delivery of abundant gas supplies to households and power plants over the cold months.

He said leak checks had been carried out on nearly half the 37,000-kilometer gas pipeline network across Iran.

Authorities in the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) also said on Wednesday that storage of gas in a facility in northeastern Iran where the transmission network normally faces pressure problems had reached around 1.7 billion cubic meters.
