Saturday, 23 October 2021 (YJC)_ The Governor of the Central Bank of Iran said that that despite the Covid-19 pandemic Iran's economy is showing growth.
In a virtual meeting with the CEO of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), ministers of economy, governors of central banks and heads of regional financial, The Governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) Ali Salehabadi, said that that despite the Covid-19 pandemic Iran's economy is showing growth.
“Like any other country around the world, Iran has been hit by the Covid-19 pandemic but is now on a solid path to economic recovery,” Iranian official said.
He went on to say that “Iran's economy witnessed growth, in spite of the losses caused by the Covid-19 pandemic,” and added “The latest statistics show a 6.2% growth in Iran's GDP in the second quarter of 2021,” while noting it as a significant achievement despite severe restrictions on the country’s access to its foreign financial resources.
Salehabadi also said that the US sanctions have prevented Iran from buying vaccines from abroad.
He finally announced that the country’s unemployment rate in the second quarter of 2021 was standing at 8.8%, and said “this shows a 1% decrease as compared to the same period last year.”
