Wednesday, 20 October 2021 (YJC)_ The UN envoy for West Asia and the Occupied Palestinian Territories warned of the catastrophic economic situation in the Palestinian Authority, saying that financial support for the Palestinians was still declining.
The UN Special Coordinator for Occupied Palestine, Tor Wennesland, has warned that the financial crisis has brought the Palestinian Authority to a "collapse point".
In his monthly report on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Wensland told the 15-member UN body:
Donor funding to Palestine, including direct funding from the United Nations, has continued to decline in recent years.
According to the Jerusalem Post, he went on to explain:
Estimates show that the PA has a budget deficit of about $ 800 million for this year. This is almost twice as much as last year. The capacity of the PA to borrow from the banks has also been exhausted.
The UN diplomat also spoke about the Zionist regime's policy of punishing the Palestinian Authority for providing monthly assistance to Palestinian operatives:
In addition to other long-term financial shortfalls that have fueled the Palestinian Authority crisis, Israel continues to deduct millions of US dollars in transfers from its monthly clearance in response.
