The Pentagon issued a statement describing the Secretary of Defense's meetings with Georgian officials during his visit to Tbilisi.
Pentagon spokesman John Kirby issued a statement following Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin's visit to Tbilisi, saying that Joe Biden's senior official had consulted with Russia in the Georgian capital.
During his visit to Tbilisi, the US Secretary of Defense met separately with Georgian Defense Minister Javansher Borcholadze and Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.
A Pentagon spokesman said in a statement that the Secretary of Defense spoke "about the security situation in the region, and in particular the Russian threat to Georgia and the Black Sea region."
According to him, Lloyd Austin declared the unwavering support of the United States for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia. He also stressed the commitment of the US Department of Defense to maintain bilateral security cooperation, assist Georgia in further developing its defense capacity and advancing (its) ambitions in the Euro-Atlantic area.
