Tuesday, 19 October 2021 (YJC)_ During a meeting with the IAEA Director General, the US Secretary of State said that Iran would be the focus of these bilateral talks because the IAEA has an important role to play in monitoring Iran's nuclear activities.
The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, met with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on Tuesday morning.
Grossi, who traveled to Washington to discuss a wide range of issues, including Iran and North Korea, said he would have a tight agenda during his first meeting with Blinken as secretary of state.
According to Reuters, Blinken said in a short interview in front of the media camera:
The United States strongly supports the work of the International Atomic Energy Agency. Helping to maintain international peace and stability is crucial.
He also spoke about the IAEA's actions regarding Iran:
[The Agency] plays a very clear and important role in monitoring Iran's nuclear activities and plays a vital role in contributing to the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
The US Secretary of State emphasized:
So there is a lot to say today. Needless to say, Iran is a major part of the focus.
