Sunday, 17 October 2021 (YJC)_The EU foreign policy chief said that no second plan on Iran and the nuclear deal could be a good one, adding that time is limited for Tehran to return to talks.

Borrell claims against Iran; We do not think of the second mapEU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said in response to remarks by US officials that all options on Iran were on the table, adding that the EU would not consider a "second plan" if diplomacy around JCPOA failed.

"It is time to return to the negotiating table," he explained. "I do not want to think about the second plan because no second plan I could have imagined would be a good one."

Borrell's remarks about the lack of a second plan for JCPOA contradicted US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, who two days earlier claimed that Washington would "look at any options to meet the challenges posed by Iran."

Borrell went on to claim that Tehran was not only vague about when it would resume indirect talks with the United States, but also did not adhere to the timeframe requested by the United States for the preliminary talks in Brussels.

"I am ready to meet with them if needed," he added. "I do not think the talks in Brussels are absolutely necessary, but we are somewhat patient about that because we cannot fail."

Earlier, the French Foreign Ministry continued its baseless accusations, urging Tehran to cooperate fully with the IAEA, saying that Iran should stop all acts that violate the nuclear agreement.

So far, six rounds of talks have been held in Vienna between the United States and other parties to the Security Council other than Iran to facilitate the return of the United States to the Security Council. The parties say tangible progress has been made in the talks, but some differences remain.

One of the reasons for the differences in these negotiations is the US insistence on maintaining some of the sanctions imposed on Iran by the Donald Trump administration after leaving the UN Security Council. In addition, the Biden administration has stated that it can provide no guarantee that subsequent US administrations will not withdraw from the UN Security Council.
