Iranian Official Criticizes Recent UN Chief Report on Unilateral Sanctions

Iranian Official Criticizes Recent UN Chief Report on Unilateral SanctionsIn reaction to the recent report by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on ‘Unilateral Economic Measures as a Means of Political and Economic Coercion against Developing Countries’, first Counselor of the Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations Ali Hajilari, called it “A weak report”.

“This report has not condemned or even rejected illegal unilateral measures, therefore, that was disappointing and has no practical value,” he said while addressing the Second Committee of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly.

He went on to note that prior to the session Madam Chair, allow him to refer to the report of the UN Secretary-General’s recent report and said “I am sorry to say that this report is very weak, disappointing and has no practical value because it has not condemned or even rejected illegal unilateral measures.”

He went on to add that “No solution was provided through this report especially with regard to the need for the immediate and total elimination of these illegal actions.”

Hajilari also said the report was prepared and presented only out of obligation.
