Friday, 15 October 2021 (YJC)_ The Russian foreign minister said that direct talks between the Palestinians and the Zionists were the only way to reach an agreement to end the conflict, adding that there was no alternative to a two-state solution.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced today (Friday) that Moscow intends to continue talks with the Zionist regime on security issues in West Asia.
In a note to the Hebrew-language newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, Lavrov explained:
We are interested in continuing to consult with our Israeli partners on security and stability issues in the Middle East. We always draw attention to the fact that comprehensive solutions to the region's problems must necessarily take into account Israel's security interests. This is a principle.
"Moscow believes that there is no alternative to a two-state solution to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on the basis of a recognized international legal basis," he was quoted as saying by the Tass news agency.
The Russian Foreign Minister continued:
Russia supports direct talks between the Israelis and the Palestinians because this is the only way to reach a solution to all the issues related to the final situation.
Accordingly, Lavrov concluded:
We look forward to working with our Israeli counterparts, including in the multilateral framework, primarily on reviving the Middle East Quartet of International Mediators in close cooperation with representatives of the Arab League.
