The Iranian ambassador to Moscow announced the signing of a strategic agreement with Russia in 2001 and stated:
The agreement expires this year but will be automatically extended until 2026 based on the mechanism set out.
Kazem Jalali, stating that Iran has an agreement with the Russian Federation, which was approved by the Islamic Consultative Assembly in 2001, said:
It was a 20-year agreement that expires in 2021, but the agreement itself has an extension mechanism.
He spoke about how to extend the agreement with Russia:
If one of the countries of Iran or Russia did not have a point of view one year before the agreement, it will be automatically extended for a period of five years. According to the mechanism set out in the agreement, this agreement will be automatically extended until 2026.
