Moscow has warned of NATO moves as recent US military deals with Australia escalate tensions in the Indo-Pacific.
The Russian Foreign Minister warned on Tuesday (today) about the tense positions and movements of Western countries in some parts of Asia, media sources reported.
According to Al-Jazeera, Sergei Lavrov announced that NATO has deployed troops in parts of Asia after leaving Afghanistan.
Russia's foreign minister has warned of the consequences of the Western military alliance's move, saying NATO is trying to escalate tensions on the continent (Asia).
Sergei Lavrov did not explicitly mention the areas and parts of Asia where NATO forces were stationed.
The senior Moscow diplomat's warning about NATO's tense stance in Asia comes as the United States and Britain signed a controversial military agreement with Australia in recent weeks.
The military deal, which many analysts believe is aimed at countering China's growth and rise, includes the joint construction of a nuclear submarine and its delivery to Australia.
Senior Chinese and Russian officials have warned of the consequences of the deal and the dangers of nuclear proliferation in the region, but the United States and Britain have denied the allegations.
