Tuesday, 12 October 2021 (YJC)_ The United Nations says five million Yemenis, including 400,000 children, are on the brink of starvation.
About seven years after the Yemeni war, 20 million people (two-thirds of Yemen's population) need help, said David Grisley, the UN's humanitarian coordinator in Yemen, at a news conference in Geneva.
He said five million people in Yemen, including 400,000 children, were on the brink of starvation.
Grisley added that the Yemeni economy has collapsed, food prices have risen and goods have become difficult to obtain.
According to the Al-Khaleej Al-Jadeed website, the UN official noted that Yemen is facing the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, citing the deteriorating humanitarian situation of the Yemeni people in the south.
He also noted that food supplies have improved somewhat, and that the United Nations, with its financial assistance, has been able to increase the number of recipients from 10 million to 13 million.
